Classic Italian Tiramisu
Indulge in the classic Italian dessert that will transport you straight to the streets of Rome. Layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, rich mascarpone cheese, and a touch of cocoa powder make for the perfect after-dinner treat.
In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Whisk in milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let cool.
In a large mixing bowl, beat heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Add mascarpone cheese and beat until smooth.
In a small bowl, combine coffee and rum. Dip each ladyfinger in the mixture, making sure to coat both sides. Place in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of coffee-dipped ladyfingers and remaining mascarpone mixture.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
Before serving, sprinkle cocoa powder over the top. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
